Except for general X-rays, patients are required to make special preparations for their procedure. Appointments are required for most special procedures and recommended for others.The table below shows the preparations required for each procedure:

Ultrasound | Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Pelvic exams are done with the bladder full. Starting 2 hours before your appointment, drink five (5) 8-ounce glasses of liquid (eg, water, coconut water, juices, etc.) DO NOT EMPTY YOUR BLADDER UNTIL AFTER THE EXAM.
Abdomen exam – have nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours before your examination. Combined Abdomen / Pelvic, Renal exams – 8 hours before your exam have nothing to eat. 2 hours before your exam drink 5-8 ounces glasses of liquid (eg. water, coconut water, juices. No milk or sodas). Prostate Biopsy exam: If you are on aspirin treatment STOP taking aspirin three (3) days before appointment. Start taking Ciprofloxacin (antibiotic) one (1) day before your appointment and continue, as prescribed, until finished (Prescription available at Radiology West upon making an appointment or from your physician). Take two (2) Dulcolax tablets the night before the exam. Have five (5) glasses of water two (2) hours before your appointment. |

HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) | On the day your period starts call for an appointment. Your appointment will be scheduled 8-11 days after your period started.1/2-hour before your exam take 2 pain killers. Bring a sanitary napkin to the exam. |

Barium Enema | Please collect your detailed diet instructions from our office at least seven (7) DAYS before your appointment. AFTER THE EXAM DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. |

IVP (Intravenous Pylelogram) | On the day before your exam, you may have breakfast and a light lunch. After lunch, have clear liquids only. Between 1 p m. and 2 p m., take 2 Dulcolax tablets.
At 6 p m. take one pack Epsom salts dissolved in 8-ounces of water.On the morning of the exam: DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING. |

Mammogram | Before your Mammogram, DO NOT use powders, deodorants, ointments or perfumes on your breast or underarm. Wear two-piece attire.Bring your previous Mammogram for comparison purposes, if they were obtained at another facility. |
