Mammography is an x-ray examination of the breast from several angles, most commonly in order to detect cancer. For Digital Mammography, the images are formed digitally rather than on film.
The breast is placed on an imaging plate and compressed during the x-ray exposure. These images are then assessed by a Radiologist before the patient leaves the department.
